The committee and staff, along with partners across the church, identify, nurture and encourage the next generation of our churchs professional leaders in order to provide theological, missional leaders for 21st Century congregations. (ELCA website) The process for our committee, which we have been given by the ELCA, has changed and we are all in a learning mode. We ask for your prayers as we discern the changes and how they will affect our decisions. We, on the committee, know that it is YOU, the local congregation that is our best partner. While you provide support for all the baptized in your place, you also identify and assist us in the discernment of potential leaders for rostered ministry. You offer care and nurture, along with financial support of the candidates and we thank God for that! Your committee celebrated on March 27, 2010, along with many others, the Rite of Ordination of TEEM candidates, James Judy and Ronald Freebourn. Jim will serve at St. Marks Waterford and Ron will serve at St Peters, Erie and Trinity, McKean. Please pray for both of them as they begin (officially) their ministry. Praise be to God! Your other TEEM candidates, Theodore Cogar, Jeff Ewing, Mary Margosian, Brenda Martin, and Keith McCutcheon are in various stages toward ordination. At this point everyone is on track. Your Traditional M.Div. Candidates are Colleen Hetrick (currently teaching in Poland), Jennifer Kopacz (Internship), Stephen Nesbitt (Philadephia Seminary), Brian Riddle (Trinity Seminary), and the newest entrant, Meredith Harber (to Chicago Seminary in the fall). Scott Lee has completed his internship and final academic year at Philadelphia, graduated from Pacific Seminary in May 2010, and will be participating in a Clinical Pastoral Education residency during this next year. J Michael Parsh, completed is internship and his final academic year at Gettysburg Seminary. He received his Approval decision from the committee in November 2009, graduated in May and is awaiting a call in the Nebraska Synod, where he has been assigned. Mary Housholder is our only AIM candidate and she is one busy lady! Please remember that tangible expressions of your partnership with these candidates is very important, a few prayers wont hurt either!! It is with great humility that I have stepped into Pastor Arlene Schweitzers shoes as Chair of this committee. She has been a great mentor and friend as we have made the transition. In her new role as Chaplain for the Committee, she has added a calming presence for the candidates and committee alike. Thank you, Arlene!! I also want to thank the committee and staff for their unending patience with me as I learned the ropes. Dr. Mary Alice Paul has completed her term with the committee and we are so thankful for her years of service. She has left her indelible imprint on so many candidates and we thank God for her! The committee that remains steadfast is: Pastors Steve Bond, Deborah Jacobson, Sandra Jones, Arlene Schweitzer (Chaplain); David Olson, Bob Engstrom, and Trudy Taylor.
