Bible
Story Read Aloud Challenge Notes:
- Although,
the challenge has been completed, this is still a great resource
and Congregations
may use this material at any time to involve members in
listening to and reading the Bible.
- The challenge
may involve people of any age group as listeners and/or readers.
- Listeners
and readers may use any translation or version of the Bible they
choose, or an age appropriate Bible story book.
- Please recognize
participants in some way, such as a bulletin, newsletter, announcement
at worship, etc.
|

Pray
for God's blessing on this effort to listen, read, learn, enjoy,
and share the power and promise of God's Word!!

Ideas for
Implementation in the Congregation
The following ideas have been shared as
possibilities and many that are now being used in the congregations of
our synod:
- Distribute to interested members to
complete on their own
- Set up reading and listening group
- Challenge Sunday – choose one Sunday
per month to gather to read and listen to stories—offer a meal
and/or other cross-generational activities
- Use for Sunday School openings or
closings
- Use for after-school programs
- Use for children’s sermons
- Use to supplement the Sunday School
curriculum
- Use as the Sunday School curriculum,
supplementing with activity sheets and ideas found in other
resources
- Use the 11 divisions or groupings as
a guide–emphasizing one or two per month
- Use as a devotional guide for group
meetings
- Insert the story sheet with each
Bible presentation
- Use with existing groups–women’s
groups, men’s Bible study, youth group, etc.
- Gather a group of readers and
listeners, audio-tape the reading of stories and share the tapes
with homebound members or those who have vision impairments.
- Start a new Bible study group that
will focus mostly on reading and hearing the stories and a little
bit on study–using the 11 divisions as a guide, you could meet 11
times.
This list is not exhaustive...it is
just a start of the possibilities
A few words of advice:
-
KEEP IT SIMPLE!
-
Get as many folk involved as possible -
include all ages.
-
Encourage people to get together to do
this - emphasizing the Bible promises of what happens when 2 or 3
are gathered and that "faith comes by hearing".
-
HAVE FUN! Remember that you may use any
translation or version of scripture that you would like or an
age-appropriate Bible story book.
With a few creative ideas, you can act
out the 4 Keys to Nurturing Faith linked to The Child In Our
Hands Initiative as you participate in the Bible Story Read Aloud
